Faith Based Outreach
Faith communities represent an enormous untapped resource in the work of preventing gun violence. Millions of people in this country gather each week in synagogues, churches, mosques, and other places of worship. Just imagine if all of these millions of people could be engaged in preventing the epidemic of gun violence.
In 2022, Women Against Gun Violence introduced its faith based initiative — a cadre of speakers specifically designated to address and engage with religious communities in gun violence prevention efforts.
There may be differences about approaches to gun violence prevention, but about the fact that this could be, and SHOULD be, a priority for communities of faith, there is no debate.

Speakers Bureau Presentations
First active in the 1990’s, WAGV’s Speakers Bureau is a substantive component of its other successful programs, often providing the “heart” of gun violence. Originally made up of both adults and youth who have lost a loved one to gun violence, had a loved one survive a gunshot wound, or survived a gunshot wound themselves, Speaker Bureau members share their stories of gun violence in an effort to educate and support others. Now, others with specific expertise in mental health, domestic violence, and gun safety legislation have joined the Speakers Bureau to share their knowledge with others. Learn more about our Speakers Bureau members and reach out to us at wagv@wagv.org to schedule a speaker.
