A few weeks ago I ordered a bracelet on line that arrived in the mail this weekend. It is engraved with the mantra to Wake Up! Kick A**! Repeat! I thought of all of you, my fellow activists, who wake up every morning ready and willing to make our communities safer by preventing gun violence!

Here are some reminders of your recent success.

Your calls and emails encouraged Los Angeles City Council Member Mitch Englander to move the City’s suicide prevention motion out of the Public Safety Committee and back before the Los Angeles City Council! We’ll keep you posted so you can join us at the City Council meeting where the motion will be heard.

Your calls and emails encouraged California’s Governor Jerry Brown to sign into law SB536 (data sharing to study the effectiveness of our Gun Violence Restraining Order) and AB785 (prohibiting those convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes from possessing guns for 10 years.) Governor Brown also signed into law AB7 (prohibiting long gun open carry in designated unincorporated areas) and AB424 (removing discretion of school authorities to allow concealed carry on K-12 campuses.)

And now here is this week’s 2-part call to action.
We know we can count on you!

Part 1:

Please call, write, or email Senator Dianne Feinstein and thank her for introducing legislation to ban bump stocks, the device used by the Las Vegas shooter to slaughter 58 people and that allows gun owners to turn semiautomatic rifles into killing machines capable of firing hundreds of shots per minute. Thank yous are critical because the Senator is receiving calls from NRA members and other radical gun enthusiasts who oppose any type of sensible regulation.

Need help on what to write or say?

“Senator Feinstein, I am one of your constituents and I want to thank you for introducing legislation that will ban bump stocks, an inexpensive device that turns semiautomatic riles into killing machines! Thank you for helping to keep us safe!”

Part 2:

Call or email 5 of your friends that live in states other than California and ask them to call their Senators to encourage their support of Senator Feinstein’s legislation!

Thank you for being part of the gun violence prevention movement!

Wake Up! Kick A**! Repeat!
For a community, a state, and a country free from gun violence!

Together We Are Stronger!
